Cybersecurity requirements for Approved Providers

ACA NSW Quickies (training) are less than 2 hours long and held throughout the year via live webinars, in-person and video-on-demand formats.


Quickies are primarily for Approved Providers, owners/directors and Nominated Supervisors with sector-specific information, advice, tips and even “tricks”.


The topics to be covered in the Cybersecurity for Approved Providers are:


  • Is cybersecurity a legal/regulatory requirement or an operational necessity?
  • What kinds of ECEC-related data and platforms are potential targets for cyberattacks?
  • What are the common vulnerability and sources for cybersecurity risks and threats?
  • How to prevent and minimise the consequences of potential cyberattacks?
  • Can your ECEC service continue operating following a cybersecurity breach?
  • Can your business insurance help? Or do you need specific cybersecurity insurance?


This Quickie provides existing and potential early childhood education and care Approved Providers to understand the importance of protecting data about its families, children, educators, teachers as well as commercial information.


PLEASE NOTE: This Quickie has a companion presentation Cybersecurity related Fiduciary Duties of ECEC Approved Providers. This other presentation will outline the legal obligations and duties of directors as derived from common law and the Corporations Act 2001. It also includes duties to protect confidential information (especially sensitive and non-public data), risk oversight, policies and procedures, governance reporting, resilience and compliance testing, and incident(s) response reporting.

      Chiang Lim is the CEO of the Australian Childcare Alliance NSW. He brings over 25 years of professional industry advocacy, organisational and business administrator, political agitator, entrepreneur and solutions seeking. His experiences include not-for-profit industry associations, information technology, telecommunications, defence, national and international standards development, human rights, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), local governments, and early childhood education and care. He was also the former Project Manager at Standards Australia who coordinated the original Australian/New Zealand National Standard on Information Security Management (AS/NZS 4444:1996).
