What is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination?

On 21 March 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 peoplein South Africa against the apartheid "pass laws". The UN then declared this day to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination, while also ending the policy of apartheid (segregation) in South Africa.

  • Who is in our class? Brainstorm the different cultures within the classroom 
  • Explore physical differences e.g. skin colour. Skin colour comes from the sun, and where your ancestors are from. Your skin does not determine what someone is or can be. All colours are beautiful like the colours of the rainbow
