National Recycling Week

What is National Recycling Week?

National Recycling Week is held annually in Australia, run by Planet Ark Environmental Foundation. The event raises awareness about the importance of being responsible when recycling. Reducing our waste will ensure valuable materials are out of landfill and benefits the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions

When is National Recycling Week?

Monday, November 11 - 17

Activities:

  • Recycling Sorting Game: Set up a recycling sorting game where children sort items into different bins based on whether they are recyclable, compostable, or landfill waste. Use pictures or actual items such as paper, plastic, glass, and organic waste to reinforce the concept of recycling.
  • Recycled Art Project: Encourage children to get creative with recycled materials by providing items such as cardboard boxes, paper tubes, bottle caps, and egg cartons.
  • Story Time: Read books about recycling and environmental conservation during group time or story time and discuss key concepts about reducing, reusing, and recycling.
  • Guest Speaker: Invite a guest speaker such as a local recycling expert or environmental educator to talk to the children about the recycling process and the importance of reducing waste.
