Members' Invitation to Discuss the Proposed Child Safety changes to law, regulations and practices

For background, everyone would be aware of Australia's worst paedophile's 1,623 assaults on 91 children across 11 early childhood education and care services.

Early childhood education and care services, educators and teachers will have heard about upcoming changes to the law, regulations and Regulatory Authorities' practices in relation to child safety.

Hosted by ACA NSW, this online meeting is for ACA NSW members, their educators and teachers, to learn about, discuss and share feedback about the proposed child safety reforms.

NOTE: The Zoom link will be shared with registered attendees prior to the event.

The official survey portal and background information are now online. And feedback is sought by 11 June 2025.

For easier reference, the information about the proposed reforms are articulated across:

• the official Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (CRIS)

• the official summaries of the Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (CRIS)

• the background videos (most are 5-10 minutes long) on:

  • managing the use of digital devices

  • introducing mandatory child safety training

  • responding to educator and staff member conduct

    • making inappropriate conduct an offence

    • enhancing Regulatory Authorities’ ability to share information with Approved Providers

    • expansion of regulatory responses to educator and staff member conduct

  • Working with Children Checks:

    • requiring an approved WWCC prior to commencing paid or volunteer work at an education and care service

    • requiring approved providers and Regulatory Authorities to be notified about changes in WWCC status

  • improving the safety of the physical service environment

    • service and temporary waivers for the design of premises (to facilitate supervision of children)

    • requiring approved providers to assess not just the FDC residence, but areas near the residence

    • enabling authorised officers to access a FDC residence or property, beyond the service premises, in specific instances or for specific purposes

  • additional recommendations

    • effective identification, monitoring and regulation of ‘related providers’

    • extending the limitation period for commencing proceedings under the National Law

    • information sharing provisions for recruitment agencies
