What is Safer Internet Day?

Safer Internet Day is an initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues, lead by The eSafety Commissioner. The eSafety Commissioner educates people about online safety risks like online abuse, how to be safe online and where to go for help. The encouraged three actions when approaching online safety is connect, reflect, and protect.


When is Safer Internet Day?

Activities:

  • Storytime: Read a book to the children that focuses on internet safety or cyberbullying.
  • Group time: Group discussion about the importance of internet safety with the children and encourage them to share their own experiences or concerns.
  • Create a digital superhero: Encourage the children to design their own digital superhero who fights against online dangers. They can come up with the name and superpowers
  • Watch an Educational Video: Find age-appropriate video that teaches children about internet safety and then have a discussion.
  • Design internet Safety Posters: Have children design their own posters with a slogan and tips for staying safe online. Display poster around the childcare centre.
