Board of Studies Teaching & Educational Standards (BOSTES) NSW will soon be known as the NSW Education Standards Authority (ESA or “the Authority”). In ACA NSW’s opinion, while we expect there will be other Teacher Accreditation Authorities (TAAs) to be set up in due course, the default TAA will most likely remain as BOSTES/ESA.

On 19 October 2016, ACA NSW Executive Committee member Sharon Graham and CEO Chiang Lim both attended the BOSTES meeting to discuss the Authority (and others) becoming a TAA and the ramifications for services and their educators.

Although there does not appear to be substantive impact on ACA NSW members’ services and educators, there remains the question of how do we make it easier on members’ staff to register with BOSTES/ESA, ensure that services are fully compliant with the minimum of bureaucracy, and not make any additional regulatory burdens that can negatively affect the supply of early childhood teachers. This is an area that the ACA NSW Executive Committee is examining closely.
