Schools Tree Day occurs annually in Australia, organised by Planet Ark – an environmental organisation. Schools and communities come together to plant trees, promote environmental education and fosters a connection with nature.

Activities: 

  • Tree Planting Ceremony: organise a tree planting ceremony where families are invited to come to the service and participate in planting a tree in the childcare service.
  • Art and Craft: Provide children with material such as paper, paint and crayons, and natural objects like leaves and twigs. Encourage the children create their own trees.
  • Story Time: Gather the children and read books featuring trees, forests, and the environment. Such as "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein or "A Forest" by Marc Martin.
  • Tree Care and Maintenance: Teach children the importance of caring for trees and demonstrate simple tree care tasks such as watering, mulching, and weeding.
  • Sensory Play: Set up sensory bins filled with material such as bark, leaves, pinecones, sand, and small branches. Encourage the children to touch and small the natural objects.
