What is World Habitat Day?

World Habitat Day was designated by the UN to encourage people to think about habitats, and the equality of everyone deserving a safe place to live. This day emphasises how cities and towns are built, and how to make them better for all.

Activities: 

  • Build a Habitat: Provide the children with cardboard boxes, construction paper, glue, and markers. Encourage the children to use their imagination and build a habitat.
  • Story time: Read books about homes and communities and discuss what makes a home special and the importance of having a safe place to live
  • House building challenge: provide the children with materials such as blocks or recyclable materials and encourage the children to be creative
