What is World Wildlife Day?

World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on March 3 to ccelebrate wild animals and plants.World Wildlife Day was first proposed by Thailand and was proclaimed by the United Nations during its 68th meeting. The nature value of wildlife wa reaffirmed, and the contributions including ecological, genetic, social, scientific, educational, cultural, sustainable development and human wellbeing. The Theme for WDW2024 is Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation. 


When is World Wildlife Day?

Sunday, 3 March 


Activities:

  • Open discussion about what widlife conservation means and why it is important 
  • Brainstorm different endangered animals near and far e.g. Tasmanian Devil, Numbat, Dugong. Explore where they are from, how many are left, why are they at risk of being extinct 
  • Art and Craft using natural materials to create different endangered animals
  • Explore Habitats that different animals call a home 
  • Discuss food chains and food webs focusing on the importance of animals needing to stay alive 
  • Wildlife dress up play
